Introducing Computer Science to Kids with Google's FREE CS First Curriculum

I am so excited to try these clubs with our students in the Hazelwood School District.  My first club will be held at Twillman Elementary in a wonderful teacher's room who always lets me try new things and trusts me to introduce technology to her students and integrate technology into her lessons.  Google's CS FREE Curriculum has several Clubs you can use with your students to teach them coding.

These are the seven that I chose to start with the kiddos in our district.

Storytelling - Students use computer science to tell fun and exciting stories.

Friends - Students are encouraged to make friends in the club and use computer science to start a business together.

Fashion and Design - In this club, students are introduced to how fashion and design are used in the computer science industry.

Art - In this lesson, the students create interactive artwork and designs, as well as learn how to use photograph filters.

Social Media - In this club students learn how to create social media applications and games.

Sports - Here they get to make their own sports commercials and create commentary for a sporting event.

Music and Sound - In this club they use the computer to make their own musical notes and create music videos.

All of the materials you need for your students are FREE from Google.  They come with a teacher's guide of solutions, a passport, a club signage poster, a roster sheet, and badges students can earn throughout the club by completing various tasks.

There are other CS subjects, but you will have to head to their page to check them out.  Click on the link below to get these resources for your classroom to use with your kiddos!

If you have used this curriculum, I would love to hear your feedback, suggestions, and/or ideas you had to make it smoother for me and our district!

FREE ClassFlow Lesson in the ClassFlow Marketplace

Head on over to ClassFlow's Marketplace to download this FREE lesson on Simple Machines.  If you aren't familiar with ClassFlow, it's the next generation lesson delivery software for 1:1 devices.  Our district uses Dell Chromebooks for all of our third through twelfth grade students.  ClassFlow is great for formative assessment.  It provides you as the teacher immediate results so you can access their answers to guide your instruction.  It really is an invaluable tool.

Grab this lesson I created on Simple Machines, by clicking on the link below.  This lesson is great for 3rd - 5th grade students.

Comment to let me know what you think.  I hope your students enjoy this lesson as much as students in my district did.  Enjoy!
